If there’s anything that the Philippine entertainment
world can never get enough of, it’s singing. Hence, singing contests abound
from locally conceptualized singing competitions to local versions of
international reality TV show singing programs. Thus, we now have The Voice of
the Philippines; the country’s own spin off from the Holland originating show.
Yes, it’s not from the U.S. where Cristina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green,
and Blake Shelton judged during last year’s panel.

In this local version, the initial goal of the show is
for its four judges to select contestants who will become a part of their
12-member team. These contestants will then be mentored and pitted against each
other during the live shows. A major difference among other singing
competitions is its blind auditions where judges’ seats are turned away from
auditionees with only the push of a button to reveal the auditioning talent.
This removes any prejudice in terms of physical appearance there may be when
selecting talents. Judges will select based on musical prowess alone even
without seeing how the person looks like.

As of the moment, each judge has at least about half of
the 12 needed team members. Not all talented singers appear to be worthy for
the judges’ seats to turn though. Thus, there are only handfuls selected as of
now amidst numerous singers who have already auditioned.
Watch The Voice of the Philippines every Saturday and
Sunday nights at ABS-CBN.
