Incidentally,
Jessica Soho made a feature about Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, the song
that refuses to fade last night. I was just thinking about doing the exact same
thing these past few days.
So what makes Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen so viral?
It’s
the catchy tune and lyrics, the lighthearted vibe, the overall theme of the
song, and of course the funny video. It’s about a girl who likes a ripped good
looking guy but ends up disappointed after realizing he is not into girls but
is rather into boys. The song was dedicated to the guy and she even literally
wrote her number down as the song ends, hoping to give it to him and have him
call her later. The guy gave his number first but not to her but her band mate.
The road to Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen’s video success
Some
say it was the Justin Bieber with girlfriend Selena Gomez and friend’s (Ashley
Tishdale included) video which sealed the viral fate of the song Call Me Maybe
by Carly Rae Jepsen. Soon after, thousands of parodies, covers, and adaptations
inspired by the video were all over YouTube. It’s these videos which makes the
song refuse to fade.
Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen video adaptations, parodies, and covers
Among
celebrities, Katie Perry and her friends had their own version.
Miley
Cyrus is also featured in one Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen adaptation.
Jimmy
Fallon and The Roots also sing the song using classroom instruments.
Athletes
(mostly college students) in baseball, football basketball, and more had
numerous uploads but the most popular is that from the Harvard baseball team. They
may have even started a dance craze. It’s easy to follow. The first variation
involves throwing your right fist in the air, followed by your left fist, and then
make them meet in the middle forming an “x.” Continue the steps all throughout
the chorus. The second variation at the last chorus repetitions of the song is
easier. Just throw your fist midway in the air with right and left hands raised
simultaneously. Except for that part of the chorus which goes like, “…so, so
bad…” where you raise the right fist twice as you sing “…so, so ”.
The
Miami Dolphins cheerleader’s video is another popular rendition of Call Me
Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen. You’d find hot ladies on their bikinis.
On
the commercial side, clothing company Abercrombie & Fitch shot their own Call
Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen video starring their sexy and good looking male
models. The black and white color used in the video is perfect.
Among
parodies of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, MattBRaps & Cimorelli’s
version is the most viewed.
It’s
closely followed by Cimorelli’s version without MattBRaps. The group was even
nominated for the Teen Choice Award for the Category: Other, Choice Web Star.
If
you’re looking for anything other than wholesome, then the dirty parody version
by TimDeLaGhetto will work for you.
Here’s
another well viewed parody. Alex chases the girls of his dreams who turn out to
be actually a nightmare named Rolanda.
In the Philippines, “it” girls Solenn Heussaff, Georgina Wilson, Isabelle Daza, Liz Uy, Anne Curtis, Bea Soriano, and Carla Humphries play around to the beat of Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen together with friends Raymond Gutierrez, Borgy Manotoc, Erwan Heussaff, Adrien Semblat, Nico Bolzico, Eric Dee, and Manny Pacquiao.
Carly
Rae Jepsen is a Canadian recording artist. She was on the third place of
Canadian Idol’s 5th season. Her song Call Me Maybe is one of the
most viewed YouTube videos as of the moment. It was released on Sept. 21, 2011
but is still very much active in the air waves, most especially over YouTube. The
total number of views will increase and the more video parodies, covers, and
adaptations will be expected as the song refuses to fade.
