With every sip of your favorite coffee beverage in hot or
cold variant, did you ever ask, “why is Starbucks called Starbucks?” I
sometimes wonder too.
Like most everyone else, my literal interpretation of the
name is derived from two words, “star” and “bucks” where the coffee shop wants
everyone to spend their bucks (money) for a taste of a coffee exquisitely
blended as if for stars (popular personalities). Is that believable?
A more intelligent answer finds its roots in the popular 1851
Herman Melville novel Moby-Dick. I read an old copy of the book back in high
school but I couldn’t recall the characters anymore. Apparently, Starbucks was
named after Capt. Ahab’s first mate, Starbucks, who was a coffee drinker.
