You don’t have to be an old timer to appreciate Ted’s Old
Timer Lapaz Batchoy. As long as you enjoy steamy soup meals, then this is a
place to be.
SM Sucat branch |
Would you believe that this literally old timer
restaurant started with only Php 10 as an investment? Yes! In 1945, Teodorico “Ted”
Lepura opened a 5x5 stall made of nipa and bamboo in the public market of La
Paz, Iloilo using his Php10 savings after World War 2. His expertise in cooking
when he previously worked for Chinese merchants led to the innovation he
applied devising various ways to cook the famous Lapaz batchoy which he had
already been cooking since the 1930s as a teenager. The rest as we say is
history when the restaurant flourished and branched out all over the
Philippines.
