Despite the current situation of the Philippines due to Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), the SM Group through SM Foundation Inc. (SMFI) continues to serve as one of the first responders to medical frontliners.
On March 20, SM Foundation turned over the first tranche of of its allocated PHP100M donation to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
Aside from its donation to the PGH, the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) and other government hospitals nationwide are set to receive help from the SM Group, through SMFI, to help eradicate the ongoing crisis of COVID-19 in the country.
In addition, SMFI in partnership with Goldilocks, has brought bread, cakes, and other pastry products to 30 hospitals and medical facilities around the National Capital Region (NCR) in hopes of bringing smiles to the brave and hardworking COVID-19 frontliners.
Established in 1983 by Henry Sy Sr. and Felicidad T. Sy, SMFI continues to pursue its mission which is anchored on its founding principle of “People helping people”. With this, SM Foundation helps create opportunities following its Social Development Framework – an intersection of access to basic social services namely education, healthcare, food sufficiency and shelter. Its framework is aligned with the SM group’s Sustainability Framework.
“Wherever SM is present, we try our best to spread social good by providing access to quality education, health care, food sufficiency through sustainable agriculture and social inclusion through our social development programs” said SMFI trustee Chito Macapagal.
