Michelle’s Homemade: Sharing a piece of home to the world

True to her brand’s name, the story of Michelle’s Homemade Goodies started in 1996 on the four corners of the house of Michelle Reyes’ husband. Their first product was the putong ube, which is made with real ube. They first sold their products at Christmas Bazaars, where rave reviews poured in. Wanting to offer more Filipino delicacies, they started diversifying their products, and their Golden Sana Banana Chips was born.

“Our best-seller is our banana chips. While there are many banana chips in the market, we wanted to make ours different. We wanted to elevate its taste and improve its packaging,” says Michelle Reyes, President of Conrey Specialty Foods Inc.

After years of research and development, their banana chips have seen various versions: the regular, the thinly-sliced and they even have chocolate-covered banana chips. They have also started exporting their products to the United States, China, Korea and Taiwan.

In 2010, they entered into a partnership with Kultura, which opened wider doors for them and helped them further develop their products.

“Kultura challenged us to explore better packaging for our banana chips. It also helped pave the way for us to bring our products closer to balikbayans and for us to export,” Michelle says.

With Kultura, Michelle’s Homemade Goodies is also the exclusive distributor of Virgie’s Homemade Products such as mango tarts, caramel tarts and chocolate tablea, among many others.

From their home in Mandaluyong and then community bazaars, Michelle’s Homemade Goodies, with the help of retailers like Kultura, is now available not just in the Philippines, but in other parts of the globe, which gives Michelle and her company’s belief in local products a sense of fulfillment.

“It’s always been a dream to bring our goods to the rest of the world, and we were able to do that with the help of Kultura and our other partners. From a small hole in the wall, we now see our products exported,” Michelle says.

Michelle’s Homemade Banana Chips are available at Kultura located in SM Malls. You may also order Michelle’s Homemade Goodies’ Banana Chips and other uniquely Filipino items at www.kulturafilipino.com.

For more than 60 years, SM, and its affiliate brands like Kultura, has been home to thousands of MSMEs. As SM grew, so did its MSME partners. From those years of partnership, SM and MSMEs once again stand together to build back stronger.
