With their facility located in Tagaytay City, all-natural soap brand Jabon Jabon and hair care brand Sibol had to face the challenge of rebuilding from the eruption of the Taal Volcano at the beginning of the year. In mid-March, they started facing the impact of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns. Yet, these brands are determined to turn these challenges into opportunities.
“We seized the opportunity to develop new personal care products that are relevant to the times. We also took the chance to assess and improve our operational and logistical capabilities now that the malls and most businesses have re-opened and are returning to normalcy,” said Ricky Lopez, Founding President of Wonderful World of Wellness.
Like many brands, Jabon Jabon and Sibol boosted their presence online to continue reaching their customers. Ricky says that their partnership with their retailers like Kultura have also been very helpful as they take on their rebuilding.
“Kultura’s Support Local campaign and the launch of its online store have helped keep our brands visible and accessible to consumers. They also helped us expand our presence to more stores nationwide,” Ricky shares.
Aside from developing new products, Jabon Jabon and Sibol also endeavored to take care of their employees during this time. The brands did not lay off any of their employees and continue to make sure that they are safe and protected at their workplace. “For us, the best way of taking care of employees is to continue providing work opportunities so they can have steady, continuous income during these trying times,” Ricky says.
John Paul Duque, Jabon Jabon’s lead soap artisan, attests to the company’s concern for its employees. “Bago pa mag-umpisa ang lockdown, nakatutok na ang WOWOW sa amin. Nagbigay sila ng PPE, pagkain, groceries at financial aid. Nakasuporta ang kumpanya sa amin,” he said.
