In case you haven’t heard: Back in August 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the national ID system (RA No. 11055) into law, putting the wheels in motion for the establishment of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) as the central identification platform for all citizens and resident aliens.
Through this singular ID scheme, the government aims to make public and private transactions more seamless and efficient, as well as to improve the delivery of government services and benefits to Filipinos. Plus, won’t it be great if you just have to show one valid I.D. for all your adulting transactions?
To speed up the rollout process, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has partnered with SM Supermalls to make the PhilSys registration process easier for everyone by establishing satellite sites at select SM Supermalls nationwide. This way, you can safely and conveniently complete your registration during your next trip to the mall and in between shopping errands, too!
Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to registering for the national ID:
Step 1: Complete Step 1 of the registration process by submitting your details through https://register.philsys.gov.ph. If you’ve already completed the initial registration through the House-to-House Collection conducted by the PSA earlier this year, there’s no need to register again online. (Just wait for details of your Step 2 registration through the contact numbers you provided to the PSA.)
Details to be asked include your full name, citizenship, gender, birth date, address, and contact details.
Step 2: You will be asked to double-check the accuracy of the information you provided. Do note that providing false information is punishable by law.
Step 3: You’re ready to book your appointment! Choose the registration site most accessible to you and select from the available date/s available. Once confirmed, save or take a screenshot of your appointment slip and be sure to bring it with you on the day of your booking.
Filipino registrants are encouraged to bring the following primary documents:
- DFA-issued Philippine Passport or ePassport
- GSIS or SSS-issued Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card (UMID)
- Land Transportation Office (LTO)-issued Student’s License Permit or Non-Professional/Professional Driver’s License
- PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth AND one (1) government-issued identification document which bears your full name, front-facing photograph, and your signature or thumb mark
You may also view the full list of primary and secondary supporting documents here: https://www.philsys.gov.ph/supporting-documents/
In case you need other government IDs and documents, you can also get your birth certificate, driver’s license, and more at SM! Find out more here.
Step 4: Head on over to the PhilSys site at your chosen SM mall on your appointment date. To complete Step 2 of your registration, your details and supporting documents will be checked and validated, and your biometric information will be taken via fingerprint and iris scans. You’ll also be photographed so don’t forget to look presentable.
Step 5: Once you’ve completed Step 4, you’re basically done! You just have to wait for the issuance of your PhilSys Number (PSN) and the actual PhilSys ID, which will be delivered straight to your home.
Safety Reminders
For everyone’s safety, make sure to observe and follow social distancing protocols, and to wear your mask and face shield at all times. Walk-in registrants will be accommodated but only on a limited basis in order to avoid crowding. Of course, priority will be given to those with booked appointments.
